ARTIST'S NOTES

Mary was strong. Some say she was the strongest woman ever to walk the earth. A woman of great strength can speak about herself: “For he has looked upon his handmaid’s lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed. The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name.”

As Jesus matured, we read, “...and the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on him.” Mary pushed her son to perform his first public miracle at the wedding at Cana. She stood at the foot of the cross when most of her son’s followers were hiding. She was a strong woman who raised a strong son. There is great beauty in her strength.
