ARTIST'S NOTES

I was inspired as I thought about what it must have been like to have uncommon treasures in your simple home. Did Mary keep them under her bed? Did she wrap a little pinch of the resins into a cloth so they could enjoy the fragrance on special occasions? When the incense filled the room, did it transform it into a sanctuary? Did Jesus scoot near the gold, frankincense and myrrh and marvel at them?

The colors, the swirling air filled with wonder, and the mystery of living with treasure all come to life in this beautiful painting. This rich, colorful print is a lovely representation of the special and unique gift that was bestowed upon the Holy family. It captures the richness of the original painting, which I created using multiple layers of materials, including acrylic paint and pen, torn papers, gold pen, and copper foil.
